Quiz 4

2) Please refer to the learning outcomes in your syllabus for this class. Did the course meet these outcomes? Were any of the outcomes not met? In answering this question, cite specific course activities or assignments that stand out to you. After reviewing this syllabus, I have seen that we have covered every learning outcome. We have definitely demonstrated knowledge of political, economic, social, religious, intellectual and artistic experiences of people around the world over time. We began in the Paleolithic Era, and ended in the Post Modern Era. That is a huge gap in time, especially when thinking the Paleolithic Era began 200,000 years ago. To see how far we have come as a species is also very impressive. Not only have we evolved into the humans you see today, but our technology has come very far as well. We began using basic stone tools, and now we have tools that are electric, and cordless. We have come very far in our development. Also seeing how far we have migrated is a...

chapter 20, 21, 22, 23

In these chapters we learned about the 20th century and what came from it. I found that evil began to prevail at this time, but from this evil we have also gained knowledge. Some of the main events that came from this era was : WW1 and WW2, The Holocaust, The Great Depression, Hiroshima, Fascism(Nationalism). Its so strange to see some of this happening today. In WW1 & WW2 anger and disgust began to appear, and a new form of racism began. Hitler tried to round his troops and have a successful genocide of the Jewish people. Although he was unsuccessful, many Jewish men, women and children did die from horrible deaths. When Americans found the concentration camps, the survivors could barely move. They had been starved and beaten, and looked like skeletons. Its crazy to think there are still people in this world that have this type of mindset. I'm afraid for our future, and what evil will be shown. In WW2 the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the dropping of the dro...

chapters 16, 17, 18

These chapters were quite interesting. The Echoes of Atlantic Revolutions to Strayer meant: A metaphor of the ever expanding ideas of agriculture How ideas spread and inspire people Began at the Atlantic and got bigger and bigger Occupy Wallstreet     Popular Sovernty (everyone gets to decide): Who's in charge (the legitamite leader) The process in which the person lead (i.e. the King lead, the Church told him what to do/believe) All average people were servants of the King (we now call this a Public Servant)                   [The President is a Public Servant]      The people were tired of how they were treated       The Right to Revolution Declaration of Independence --> gun debate [not just a right to revolution, its a duty] Our Country at some point might need to call us to stag...

Ch 13, 14 & 15

I never knew that the fall of the Soviet Union was seen by a handful of pedestrians. I can only imagine the mixed emotions that people must of felt. I always wondered what people in these types of situations actually think. I feel that they don't know any different, and that's sad. The brutality they were put through is unbearable. I knew that Russia had built the largest territorial empire, but I never knew it made Russian an Asian and European power. I always saw China as a huge empire, but I never associated the two countries. As I continued to read chapter 13, I learned that Europe changed history with their trades across the Atlantic. It was interesting to see that the Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman empires stayed the same, and Europe continued to change due to their American possessions. They were enriched with new resources such as : corn, potatoes, tomatoes, chocolate, tobacco, timber, gold, silver, and land. I loved the motto at the end of the c...

Ch 9, 11 & 12

When reading these chapters a few key elements popped out to me. The beginning of chapter 9 really stuck out when Strayer said "They were of all colors, blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and non-white." This quote brought many emotions about. I grew up in San Francisco, a place of mixed race and religion, and where people were free to be themselves. I have always thought that people should unique, and never feel they need to follow the group. Now if 30 people all did the same type of ritual, and all believed in the same cause, I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with, is when a person does something just because everyone else is doing it. The only time someone should follow what the group is doing, is when its to better their community.   ...

Chapters 7, 8, & 10

I found it interesting that silk had become the symbol for the Eurasian exchange. I think its fascinating how its produced. It all starts as a simple silk worm, and with a tedious prolonged procedure, the worm eventually makes a cocoon of silk. It is then unwound into the beautiful fibers that we still use today. Its interesting that the fabrics status has not changed much over the years. Its still worn by people in a Higher Economic Class, and seen as an expensive material. I never knew that it was once used as currency, and a means of accumulating wealth. The Silk Roads seemed to be very vital to the people that lived after 300 BCE; I'm curious as to why it was mostly women that were responsible for the supply and demand though. The story about the poor family not having enough money to feed their silk worms, must of been very common in those times. I cannot imagine having to put all your time, energy, and money on basically taking car...
